Hi guys,
I'm trying to find a replacement for a semiconductor.  AN78N09.  Anyone even heard of this one?  It's from a very old JVC player...

Tonemonger

Could that be like an LM7809 ?
What does it look like ?
I'd start by searching for a datasheet.

GibsonGM

Looks to me to be a 9V regulator as Tonemonger suggested, and could be replaced by an LM7809.  Not sure if you'd have to hack the LM with some filter caps, tho, to stabilize things.

Thanks guys.  I'm blindly trying to fix this jvc player.  It works intermittently and always on startup so I'm eyeing the 2 semiconductors on the heatsink.  Unfortunately, one of the semiconductors don't have any markings on it and there is no schematic!  Again thanks for the help!
