Guys I built the Dr Q
From this build doc.

http://ustomp.com/files/drquackbuild.pdf

I liked the layout.
I used the 4558 IC
and  red 3mm leds for D1 and D2
I used a 1n4148 for D3
A 20k pot for the range (what i had in stock) should have been 25k
I'm out of 100k B's so i used an A for now? Problem?
Q1 2n5457
Q2 2n3904 i was going to try 2N2369 because of its low gain but am holding off for now.

Because there was no BOM with the doc.
I got it from somewhere else on the net

It's very sensative to picking dynamics which i kinda expected after reading up on the circuit a bit.
I'm having a run on envelopes and wahs right now.!!!!!!!!!

Its difficult to set the sensativity so as it doesnt sound all kind of insecty (I dont think that one's in the dictionary) if you know what I mean.
Can this be improved if so how?
Where my diode choices sound?
should I try a LM1458 IC
try some transistor swaps?

Where do I go from here?
I'm sure I've heard you tube demos that sound good and mine isnt living up to those right now.
Help please.

Thanks
Rich

In the non-bass setting, that filter can sweep up pretty high.

The 20k trimpot is generally fine although part of your "insecty" problem may be solved by turning that trimpot into a panel-mount pot for tuning the filter.  I've done so, and while the entire range of the pot is not useful, enough of it is to justify installing it.

The 1458 is necessary for the stock Dr. Q, but the Quack includes some tweaks to make any dual op-amp work properly in the circuit, so you're fine with a 4558.

Thanks for the response Mark.
I'll have to get some trimmers and try it.
It was mildly improved after I installed BJT with a Hfe of 42

I largley prefer the dod fx25 out of the two though i think.
