This is my third pedal... but I've built a bunch of amps.

I built an MXR envelope filter clone using a tonepad board. I used a 3dpt with an led and direct pass through.

The odd thing is, when the pedal is engaged, I only get signal when my hand is within a couple of inches... sort of thramin like. I get an audible click... then a signal that is lower than the pass through... but no auto wah or effect. I know it sound ridiculous... but a hand, a foot, any part of me activates the circuit within about 3 inches.

Any idea what's up here?

Poltergeist?

Within a couple of inches of what, though?  Your guitar?  The pedal itself?

the pedal.

This occurred with both the fairchild and motorola sets of chips (2x4069 and 1x4066). Oddly, when I put in the NXL set of chips, that behavior stopped. I still have no wah, so I have some double checking and maybe tweaking to do.

Check your power setup. Check to make sure your 9V is going where it should. MAke sure your Ground is going wher eit should. And, make sure they are not reversed  :icon_eek:

I got the weird effect to stop. Since then I've tried every variation of IC chips, and the mods documented and can not get this thing to work. With all the changes I've tried the pathing of the board is starting to give and I'm about to give up on this. Does anyone else make a cb for the MXR envelope filter? Maybe one that's a bit more durable?

The tonepad.com website has been hacked and no build reports are available anymore.
Does anyone have an old build report for the MXR Envelope Filter?
I'm building it now and could really use that help file.
If so, that would be greatly appreciated  :D

Thanks!

There is lots of info on the EF here.  Just do a search.  I instigated the range switch years ago, then Steve Giles introduced the up/down thing, and possibly the Q/emphasis adjustment.  Others here provided info on what chips worked better for them, adjusting output level, and so on.  It's obviously more convenient to have it all in one identifiable series of posts at Tonepad, but the info you need IS all here.
