What is the story with the Chinese "Buck Converters"?  Do a search on "LM2596"

They can be had for less than 2 bucks generally.  Adjustable DC to DC converter.  I assume they are really noisy, and tremendously cheap because they are inside every wall-wort in the world.
I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

I took a chance and got two of those boards for about $5. Perfectly quiet and I got up to 45 volts out of it.

I picked 3 of them up-- using them to drive LEDs for automotive "crafts."  i.e. step down 12V to 5V.  MC
