Need a good beginner resource

hi-   i'd like to learn what each component does in a fuzz/distortion pedal and so on.  can anyone suggest a good book, article, or even website geared towrds that end?

i enjoy reading so not aafraid to do the legwork! lol thank you!

I don't know of one single book or resource that teaches what you want to know, though Electronic Projects for Musicians (available on Amazon) has a lot of relatively simple explanations. The AMZ link above is to Jack Orman's muzique.com, which teaches a lot. GEOFEX is an enormous resource, though I suggest getting some background in how components work generally before you dig into R. G. Keen's articles. If you look at moosapotamus.net, there is a link to some posted back issues of a newsletter, Stompboxology, that are very good.

It occurred to me that the Make: Electronics book might be helpful. Do you have a breadboard? The book will walk you through many experiments and explain how the components work. Then you can apply that knowledge to analyzing effects.
