I think i have figured out the DMM for completing the tasks that you have asked. I have used this to check the circuit board, in conjunction with the continuity setting. Im still looking at this, but I feel like I have found a few possible leads.

I will look further tonight and in the morning, and let you know my results.

I greatly appreciate all the help I have been given, and feel like I have learnt from this experience. Fingers crossed these will end up working for me!
