EA Trem build has noise/hiss, is JFET/transistor selection critical?

Title says it all. I would like to get the circuit a little quieter if I can. It's the GGG build, are there parts I should be testing and selecting for noise? Thanks.

What kind of noise are you getting?

I've built several jfet-buffered EA Trems and most of them were dead-silent, except for those with the "rate led" mod (ticking noise, you know).

Shielded cable is really helpful.

Hiss when engaged like the kind you get with an OD pedal. I'm not expecting it to be dead silent, just wanted to know if JFET selection was important. Thanks!

should be dead quiet, and not tick. do you have C9 and C1 fitted? if so, pull C9 and link across. it shouldn't be there.

while we are waiting for the pics, I'll ask a stupid question. does the hiss get louder and softer with the trem? does the hiss get deeper/shallower with the depth pot setting? two stupid questions.

Is it noisy if you run it on a battery?
Most EA tremolo layouts don't include power filtering, so they can make quite a racket if you power them with a wall wort (but this can be fixed).
