Long story short, I have a DD3. If there is a cable in the "direct out" and the normal output they become a wet/dry.
I want to add a switch to achieve this, so no dummy cable is needed.

My question is....how to do this?

The direct out isn't a stereo jack that the a jack shorts a few sleeve wires, it only have two wires(mono).
I'm wondering if a 1meg between the two wires(tip and sleeve) of the direct out jack would do the trick?
Maybe a 5meg?

Thanks!

Mod note: Please use a more descriptive title. This will help people know what your problem is. :)

Are you sure it's mono? I don't know for sure, but if there are two wires connected, I bet they are ring and tip, while the sleeve connection is made through contact with the box.

I'd try a switch between the two connected wires.

i'd think that ONE of the outputs must be a stereo jack to do the switching...  :-\ it would make sense that the 'direct' output is stereo and uses that extra tip to switch with. like the direct output carries the dry signal and if no plug is in, then it passes the signal to the other jack, for no 'direct' cable plugged in it would pass the dry signal to the wet/dry -Normal output... when a plug is in the direct output it carries the signal on the tip and 'interrupts the signal form passing to the wet/dry-Normal output...
if the direct jack is mono, then it always has dry signal available and would do nothing to the wet/dry-Normal output. no turn the dry off...
unless its a grounded 'dry' signal on thte wet/dry-Normal output ,then when unplugged its 'not connected' then gets connected to ground when a plug is in the direct out, then you just need 2 wires but its actually still switched...the wet/dry blended normal output has its dry side connected to the 'stereo' tip of the direct jack, so when you plug into the direct out the 'normal' output jack only has wet, and the direct out has dry, plugged or not... so just get a switch on/off, spst, and wire it one side to ground, one side to the direct out jack's stereo tip, not the normal positive tip, ground will be going to the ring and also to the switched part that we want. on/off dry signal on the normal output. i think...

Exactly how do you suppose a stereo jack is going to accomplish this?  It can't work the way the battery thing is switched.  Whatever is on the ring will be shorted to ground when the cable is inserted.  Good when it's the bottom of the battery, bad when it's audio signal.

It's a switching jack!  Whether mono or stereo, there is a built in switch.  That switch could pretty easily be relaxed with (probably) and SPDT.  You may need to disconnect the jack and use your meter to figure out which lugs connect where with and without cable inserted.

There's different versions of the DD3 but on mine the direct out is a stereo jack, when a mono plug is inserted in grounds the ring connection which causes a transistor switch to disconnect the dry signal from the normal output. As shown in this schematic http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/audio/pictures/bossdd2.png.

So to add a switch you just need a SPST, one lug connected to the ring contact and the other to ground.

Thanks guys, figured it out!

The output and direct output rings are grounded by the enclosure being grounded...it was a stereo jack, installed a switch. Will enjoy this with stereo setups!
