Do I need a specific type of input jack in order to wire it so that it cuts power when unplugged?  Either way, how do i wire it to do so. Also, for 9 volt jack,How to  save battery when using walwart? It's a basic dod250 clone. Thanx!

??? So we're not cutting the battery out of the circuit when plugged in,  Just running it parallel with the walwart?

That's a Kobiconn switching jack. When you plug in the wall wart, it disconnects the battery.

In that diagram, the wiring of the adapter jack cuts the battery's + connection when an adapter is plugged, so the battery is not drained.

The wiring of the power ground connection to the ring of the stereo input jack turns off the power whenever there is not a (mono) guitar cable plugged in.

To expand on what's been said by others, you are disconnecting the battery when you unplug the guitar plug.  You also disconnect the battery when you plug in the DC adapter. An alkaline battery should never be allowed to be connected to the DC adapter without a switch to disconnect it when the DC adapter is plugged in. Such a switch lives inside the DC jack.

Here's a listing of the logic based on GL's link:

Guitar Input   Adapter Input           Result
0                   0                  No power to pedal
1                   0                  Battery power to pedal
1                   1                  Adapter power to pedal*
0                   1                  Adapter power to pedal*

* Battery is disconnected from circuit by the switch in the DC jack.
