Hi All

I'm having a brain block today and need a quick piece of simple advice.

Building a ZVEX SHO and want to remove the pot so it's flat out all the time e.g. the dial is fully clockwise, and put a volume pot on the end instead.

Being a 5K pot if I want it flat out all the time do I put a 5K resistor in it's place or run the Source straight ground to have it running flat out all the time?

Schematic for reference if necessary:

Noob question, just really lost the plot today.
Thanks

I would tack in a pot (whatever you have, 1K, 10K....) and dial in the amount of drive you like.  A smaller value is going to make the SHO overdrive more, but there will be a point of diminishing returns (so just tying source to ground might not sound that good).  "Flat out" might not sound that great...YMMV tho.

What you'll end up with is a source resistor like 1K, or 470 R, 150R, or something.    Or perhaps you WILL like how it sounds just tied to ground...

Thanks GibsonGM

That answers my question perfectly and also great advice about making sure it is the sweet spot first.

Perhaps just use a trimmer and set it to whatever you want. Could be that your next amp sounds better with a different setting or whatnot.

^^ Yup! ^^

Y/W, chum, it's why we come in here....the thing is, sometimes if you dime things, they just go all 'square wave' on you, and sound like junk.....as mth suggested, a trimmer will let you dial in a nice tone that you can tweak later if you want to!   I doubt the SHO, having only one stage, is THAT radically dirty, but adjustment is nice...
