Tonepad - Callate Gate 2 sounds like an overdrive pedal! (ironic!)

Hey guys

just finished the MXR Noise Gate and it sounds like a tube screamer!!!!

The ONLY difference I have done between this and the original is used a 1.5k resistor instead of the 1m between the Q3 and Q2 (read in the build docs that it increases the volume a bit,

and the other difference is that currently I am using a 100k pot (says to use 500k - dont have any atm). I am not getting any gate-ing at all, but the pedal definitely engages.

Transistors are 2n3904 and 2n5485 and they are both in the same was as the layout shows, which i believe is correct orientation (Q3 being the 2n5485).

Could it be a bad 100k pot, or just that im using a 100k instead of 500k?

IIRC the 10uf (next to 1ufNP) is back to front.
Try googling the build reports and comparing to the schematic too.
Might help.
I built it but it was too much trouble as I didn't have the correct fet.
I moved on to the Lm13700 noise gate.

Thanks mate, didn't think there would be other build reports. Why would it not be updated if it's a known mistake!? Anywho, will try it when home, hopefully that's the only problem. I'm not too good t reading schematics just yet I'm still learning. Thanks for that anyway will update if this works.

Swapped them around and nope didn't work :-( after reading a lot it seems this is one of the most unsuccessful builds for most people! Can't find any other noise gate projects (preferably etching instead of vero) so may be giving up on this one.

Do you know any other gate projects?
