Volume pedal side of boomerang question

When in volume mode the sound is a little dark. Is there a change of one or two components that would make it less dark? Volume mode is with s1 open. Would a larger value pot help? I have it set up with an ldr with 33k resistor across it to make it closer to a 25k value. I could switch off the parallel resistor. I would just try it but I already have it soldered and don't want to hack it up if it won't help.
