Attn 1590A stuffers- tight fit jack question help before I drill !!

I'm using a black plastic switchcraft jack in a 1590A. The open frame jacks are too wide for what I want to do but regardless of the jack choice, I've spotted a problem: can anyone definitively tell me if a 1/4 plug will fit thru a top mounted, upward facing jack without shorting against the bottom?  It looks very close.  Would love to top mount.  The jack contacts can bend 90degrees and fit.  It's the plug!
I'm sure the question has comes up, but I can't search it out.
