3PDT Switch questions.

I'm sure the True Bypass topic has been brought up a lot on this site. But, I am new to pedal mods, and new to this site.

I have three Boss stomp boxes that I would like to mod to True Bypass. A DS-1, an FRV-1, and an NS-2.  I have seen many TB mods online of DS-1s, SD-1s, and Blues drivers, but never an FRV-1.

Have any of you have seen this switch before? Is it made this way? Or modded? It seems like it would be a better fit in te small space. http://www.bossarea.com/forum/uploaded/ashtone/200721017237_DC-2%20comp.jpg

1.Can any Boss pedal be true bypass modded? If not, which ones can, or which ones have you had luck with?
2.Any advantages.disadvantages to different brands of switch?

First of all, welcome 

I don't know anything about the switch you mentioned, but it does look like it would suit your needs very well if you can find it in the 3PDT variety.

1. Technically any pedal can be made true bypass, if you're willing to put the effort into doing it.
2. The switches I use in my pedals are just 3PDT's from China, and they're one of the few I've found cheaper than Tayda (recently picked up an order of 10 for $13 US). Advantages: get the job done, cheap. Disadvantages: I have to be careful when I'm soldering so I don't melt the glue around the lugs. But for the most part a switch is a switch.

If you simply must have true bypass, it's far simpler to do it with an external box or an internally controlled relay. The external box is easy, and does not butcher an existing pedal enclosure. The internal relay is simple, uses one MOSFET or transistor plus the ($3.00) relay, and does not butcher the pedal enclosure.

All very true. Also an external box doesn't affect resale value, if that's something you anticipate worrying about. I tend to never mod pedals I didn't build because I figure I'll usually end up selling them in favor of something I did The only exception being a Crybaby, which I haven't modded because it suits my needs perfectly well as is.

Thanks guys, but changing a few pedals to TB is not only an advantage, but also an exercise for me. I'm familiar with loop boxes, but at the moment, not really interested. I figured TB mods would be a good introduction to modding practice.

If you just have to mod, you have to mod.

the best thing about the boss style box is that it will protect the switch quite well, so you can use just about any old crap cheap and small, much as the original boss switch is. you would only need a dpdt to switch, and you could possibly mod the boss flip-flop to use the led drive as is. I think.
