What kind of circuit am I looking to build that is a "Tube amp and mic'd cab simulator" to replace a DI box?  Other guitarist at church plays a tune screamer to a valvecaster to DI box to mixer.    It would be cool to make him a DI / sim box.

Does something like the ROG Condor do it all?  It looks like an EQ.  I've tried to dial EQ on the ML5000, but it's not right.  Para bump around 4k, and a stepped LF roloff isn't doing the trick for sterile tonez.

What comes close to a mic'd clean amp for tone?

EQ is an essential part of all cab simulators. I think the most important part is steeply rolling off the high end somewhere around 5 kHz (I think 2nd order filtering is typical), moving the cutoff much above that or rolling it off much slower sounds pretty unnatural. The other bumps and valleys will vary by cabinet.
