Socketing Tips

Does anyone have any tips for cutting sockets and putting them neatly in the pcbs and vero. I recently decided to try socketing some diodes and transistors, but every time i would cut a link the plastic would break off. Thanks

I use wire snips and cut at the top of the plastic (hole end) and just bearly snip it. It works most of the time.

I bought some from tayda and they break clean with just your fingers. Pick  a number and break.

Snap a few off with your fingers to find the natural weak points.  Then use two pairs of pliers for more precision.  You're inevitably going to lose some plastic in the procedure.

I've got it from Tayda, too.
I cut slighlty with a knife cutter, so I break. Rather easely and fine in this way.

There are many blades to choose from, and they are also quite cheap. I've seen them in kits of six sizes of teeth and a total of 144 blades for under $7.00.

This is a remarkably good solution to many cutting and shaping tasks in making pedals, including fancy cuts on and *inside* PCBs and other boards, as well as odd cuts and holes in boxes.

I pop them out of the socket and bury them up to their neck in the pcb. Never going to get bent over and break. Also use them this way if i need a non-slip test point somewhere on a board.
