Boss CE-3 help with switching fets and schematic.

I'm struggling to fully understand the fet switching as described in GEOFEX atricle and follow this on the schematic.

For making the effect always on as described in the article, are Q4 and Q5 (described as sw 1 + 2) the fets that are removed and jumper placed source to drain?
Are Q2  and Q3 the Fets that are just removed?

These pedals fail to light the LED when powered by 9vdc as they were designed for the 12v boss adaptor. There is a zener / resistor following the LED on the schematic, will bridging the zener be OK if I was going to power it at 9vdc. Would powering it at 12vdc offer any advantage circuit wise?
