Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction here.

I have a 20+ year old "booster" pedal that I just came across in a box of my old stuff, I can't find the power adapter for it, unfortunately it is not a normal 9v center pin type jack. Looking at it, it looks like a stereo jack, similar to a headphone jack with two rings. The jack has 3 wires on the inside.

Red to +
Black to -
Green to G

can I replace this with a "boss" type jack similar to this?

assuming that the centre is negative (black), where do I attach the green and red to?

sorry for what must be a simple question, but it has been many years since I have done anything like this

Thanks

You might need two jacks wired in series so you could run from two separate but identical wall warts.  That way, it doesn't matter which wall wart is connected to which jack.  The Boss jack you have suggested has a third terminal that disconnects the battery when you are running from an external supply, so you could wire it for two batteries.  Normal battery shutoff is from the input jack where taking out the input cable opens the power connection, whether it is battery or wall wart.  In this case, you could use the same type of jack connection on the output jack to shut off the second supply (whether battery or wall wart).

It's definitely doable, but it's probably gonna take some Rs and Cs and minor but carful reworking of the off board wiring.  Basically you'll need to disconnect anything that carries that middle 0V to the chassis, connect negative to the chassis instead, build a voltage divider between + and - and connect it to the board where the 0V is now, and then add coupling caps at input and output.  Not particularly difficult, but if you mess it up, things can burn.

Is this a DIY booster, or does it have a "Brand" name?

It was diy pedal, but not by myself.

At this point it looks like it will be a lot more work than I am capable of so I may just give it away to someone who knows what they are doing. If any of you are interested let me know and I can pop it in the mail for you. Free, just want to know its being used by someone.

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad
