Does anybody know of a page, chart, whatever that lists which tubes can be substituted for which? I don't mean north American vs European codes but rather how there is sometimes an extra letter thats just a code specific to the manufacturer.....would that always be the last letter or two? I have an opportunity to buy a couple boxes of nos tubes and there are a couple things I could use if just one letter were either different or not even there....an example would be I could use 6BM8 and there are a few of each 6BC8 and 6BM8....so in neither case is it the last letter....if I start checking data sheets for every tube in the lot that may be close my weekend will be over ;-p So if theres some sort of master list out there that would kick ass! Anyone know of such a magic list?

Canucker,

Your weekend is over I'm afraid.....

There are some common correlations but really, when buying NOS tubes which we all know can be very expensive you're going to need to be certain....

I find the Vintage Valve Museum to be a good resource at http://www.r-type.org/

The "Index of Valve Equivalents" is particularly useful for a quick scan.

^Great site.

If you're interested in a book, check out Master Tube Substitution Handbook. It lists preferred substitutions and good substitutions. It includes pinout diagrams/schematics, but does not list any specs (mu, etc.).
