12volts + for pedals?

I don't have anywhere near the experience of the other guys on here but I will echo their sentiment - it depends on the circuit.

For example a mpf102 buffer operating at or near 24v (12v input + charge pump) sounds quite good. Whereas I don't think I've ever run anything germanium over 9v (honestly though I have no idea what their spec sheets look like though so idk if you can even run one at high voltages).

Counter-intuitively as it were I seem to prefer distortion and overdrive pedals at higher voltages. Now, that could be because pedals with a charge pump don't respond the same as those without (I have no idea whether this is the case or not, just spitballing really) or maybe there's something about operating nearer the max ratings of the op-amp (iirc the tl072 can only handle 18v max?) but the character is qualitatively different and I don't ever play with the gain knob dimed so I couldn't say I miss the extra gain.

All I can say is that I quite like the 'feel' of higher voltage effects. Whether or not that's a fiction of my own perception is as much a mystery to me as to anyone but for my purposes it seems to work well.
