Adding gain pot to reverb

I would like to add a gain control to the 1776 RubaDub reverb. My goal is to be able to get some distorted/fuzzy reverb sounds but I'm not sure how to implement this. Gain stage before the Belton brick to distort the dry signal and push the Belton's inputs a bit? Or adjustable gain post Belton to distort the already mixed dry+wet signal? My initial plan was to replace R5 (feedback resistor for IC1B) with a 100k pot but I would assume I'd be needing a master volume then as well to compensate for the volume boost? Is there a better/easier way to get gainy sounds out of this circuit?

The third option is to add one more stage, and split the signal after the input, so that clean signal gets reverbed, and another copy of the signal gets distorted.  Then you mix dirty and delayed in the output/mixer stage.

That's my own preference, for adding a bit of "air" around a distorted tone.

Put a fuzzface or similar in front.

The design of a reverb is complicated enough already without trying to make it do extra things.

"Pushing" the Belton's input might be bad for it.

And adding gain to the first stage as drawn will add hiss; I'd do it very different if gain were needed.
