Anyone played with one of these before? As I understand it the v1 is a pretty faithful Timmy clone, but the v2 has been changed enough to avoid any ethical (if not legal) issues with copying the original circuit. Does anyone know what was changed? I saw a used one advertised for about $20 and it looked interesting, any chance it's a small mod-job away from the original?

I have the v1 and it's a good sounding OD (never had a Timmy so I can't say how close they are). But I hate using it. Even if the v2 could be modded to the Timmy circuit, the problem with the Cool Cats is having the control layout on the back. I have a few Cool Cats and they are a royal PIA to use - in, out, dc, and knobs (some concentric - those are the worst) all on that small back panel. So if you are looking for something you'll enjoy using as well as like the sound, just build a Timmy clone from scratch.

Timmy is a great project; plus, you can mod it to your heart's contentment to get exactly what you want out of it ;)
