Sounds like a New Coke moment! I remember researching the regular Carbon Copy vs. the EHX Memory Toy a few years ago, and the general trend of opinion/consensus was that the CC was better/preferred by many primarily because it was darker sounding. So now they have both bases covered. Have they bowed to the competition? What will happen to the Memory Toy at $40 cheaper? Will EHX fight back by releasing a Memory Toy Dark? Wouldn't the simple addition to the CC of a bright switch been a better idea? Will the DIY community save the day by creating a bright switch mod for the CC? Will boutique modders/builders offer the mod or mod kit at reasonable prices? Stay tuned kids.

That video could sell me a steel wire toothbrush. A BC Warlock six string bass.  A blueberry/ persimmon craft ale.  Fiberglass socks.

The real competitor is the Malekko 616, not the Toy. Malekko released a "dark" version because people would recommend the Malekko for bright and the CC for dark. The Malekko is still the better delay IMO. It has the modulation controls outside, a longer delay time (only 50mS more, but still), and a switchable buffer at the same price or less.

As far as making the CC switchable to bright, I would imagine that the filtering involves a three-pole filter, so a switch isn't feasible. You'd either need a 3PDT that won't physically fit in the case, or active switching that won't physically fit on the PCB.
