making myself a rangemaster, but the dam style one with a range knob because i use a Vox and a strat ..and NPN , still scared to try and wire up a pnp for some reason..I have yet to wire a battery and dc input at same time to ..something I need to work on

0106 331   Transistor - The Rangemaster NPN U.S.   1
0109 225   Transistor - The Rangemaster NPN OC140   1
0115B14   TI NPN Germanium 6219-1 House Number   1

got me three different ones to test out from Small Bear , shipped out this morning :)

wonder if the more expensive oc140 will be the one in the circuit or will it be a unnamed house germ..we will see

I found a guy who is going to acid etch me a custom enclosure for this one to so it will have so graphics on it instead of a plain old box. My attempts at water decal failed, I stopped even trying with the inkjet and acrylic ones . stickers work okay with a gloss spray but cool stickers from a place are like 5-10 bucks a piece!!

I sometimes when I can't be bothered to etch etc use el cheapo self adhesive clear vinyl A4 sheets which I get from e-bay you are limited to black lettering but could stick them on a coloured enclosure to jazz it up a bit.

I use a laser jet printer and get 6 x 1590B size and 4 x 1590BB's they stick on nice and easy and bubble free. I put a couple of coats of clear lacquer on to make sure they don't come off.

Here's a couple of pics as you can see with the Rangemaster I didn't let it dry long enough and rubbed away some of the ink but it was my first one so now I let it dry overnight and get a not too shabby finish for 99p a sheet!

im going to give it another go, looks really cool and inspiring.

Yeah you should go for it John I think I've used every method known to man for enclosure labelling except a hammer and chisel! ( I might do that when my thumb gets better from building flat pack furniture for my sis.)

I've found the clear vinyl stickers to be the easiest and cheapest and so far I've not had any back.

With regard to PNP circuits the Rangemaster here was my first one again I like to try all methods for building this was on turret board during my 'mojo' period, not the tidiest as you can see, although I did neaten it up a bit post photo.

I used the voltage inverter circuit on vero to enable daisy chaining with neg ground pedals and I did have to do a wee bit of thinking for wiring up the LED.

So there were a few head scratching moments but I used RG's advice to think of it as a negative supply rather than positive ground and I used red wires for the ground connections or supply (-9v) which helped - so again go for it

I am reading the 3d laser thing is the way to go now. I dont know much about it, but from what Karbo is doing, and what i have seen on counting cars with the restorations, seems like the art work is only limited by mans imagination now with one of those machines.

Recently, just got my hands on two real NOS MP38A's with a beta around 100 so I can give them a test run as well in the rangemaster circuit.

If you want to try a PNP Rangemaster without the positive ground headache, you could use a voltage inverted version as mcknib suggested. I built one in my latest project. Here's the projectfile:

It should fit in a 1590a.

For general information and biasing of this circuit I stuck to RG's recipe: http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/rangemaster/atboost.pdf

By the way: from the subject of the post it is hard to deduce what might be its content!
Cheers, Lars

Yeah kinda went off the subject a bit because LSG mentioned someone etching his enclosure and doing enclosure lettering, a PNP pos ground circuit etc and it just so happened that I'd done a Rangemaster PNP for my first pedal using the cheap vinyl sheets.

You've got it back on track Lars I might give the engineers thumb a go it was one I was thinking about doing cheers

The 3D printer post is really interesting BTW

Someone recently linked a site that has a DIY 3D printer project on it here:

Don't think I'd go this far haha or have the ability to do so! I'll just save for a few aeon's and get one, but yeah they are very cool

^ it's just me rambling, thinking out loud. I 'm on here a lot reading stuff, I have a tendency to post my thoughts out loud .
