Hey guys! I need a little bit of direction. I just picked up a non-working line 6 dl4. The guy had no idea what was wrong with it (it didn't power up) after taking it apart I found it to be a bad solder joint of the diode next to the power jack.

Anyway, I want to do some mods to it but I'm having quite a problem finding out how to install them. There's not a lot of documentation. I did complete the Volume Drop Mod, Tap tempo switch mod, and new switches and leds but can't find much on the 2 mods I really want to do. One being the feedback loop mod and the second is the expression know mod. Does anyone have any documentation on these or know where to point me? Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks once again!

A couple months ago I was looking around for some dl4 mods as well. The only way I could get the expression to work was soldering a 10k pot with lugs 2 & 3 connected to the expression jack. So 2&3 go to the bottom leg and 1 goes to the top. The feedback mod is pretty simple in the you just connect pins 2 & 3 of the feeback pot together, which just maxes it out with a momentary or latching switch.

I read a few different ways of doing the feedback mod and messing with the FB pot was frowned against. From what I was understanding you somehow reroute the output back to the input, or something like that.

Now, the expression knob mod. Basically just act like you're hooking up an expression pedal WITHOUT using a patch cord basically? Is that what you're saying? And I thought a switch was needed to turn the expression knob on and off?

There is a dude that posts on other forums who goes by the username drasp, I don't know if he posts here. He does dl4 mods as well as other Line6 mods. He also sells kits for the mods too. I don't know if that helps you.
Why won't this @$&$ing thing work?

I have come across his name a few times. I'll try to contact him but if anyone has any other info or docs they wanna share with me I'd really appreciate it.

Heya all!!!

I don't have time for nearly the volume of mods I used to do, usually just a few DL4s on my bench at a time, but I do have my DIY kits, both direct, on a half dozen forums, and on Reverb here:

As far as I know, my mods are all the same as what folks have been doing with the DL4 for ages, I just also offer the kits for those who'd like some direct support/hand-holding. The kits come with all the parts needed, illustrated institutions, and most importantly, unlimited e-mail support on anything to do with the mods, repairs, refinishing, etc.

I pretty much got everything done with the exception of the expression pot. I dont know what im doing wrong but it will not work no matter how i hook it up. I understand you just basically wire a 10k pot to the jack. Am I missing something?

You need to make sure you separate the contacts on the expression jack. You can do so by simply getting a small screwdriver in there and bending them up a little bit. Don't go crazy bending them. Once you do that you should be good.

Yea, i did that. Do i need to remove the legs from the pcb at all? How exactly should i wire the pot? Right now the ring and sleeve are soldered together with a jumper. I would think the tip goes to lug 2 of the pot and the ring and sleeve to lug 1 of the pot but it does nothing.

No you don't need to remove the legs of the jack, just separate the tabs on the top of the jack. Then jumper the 2 tabs closest to where you put the 1/4 jack in. Then a wire from the 2 tabs you just connected to lugs 2 + 3 of the pot. That should do it. Unless you are using a switch then there is more to do.
