The motor won’t always start and I have to wait 10 – 15 min. Weak weak weak echo. I have cleaned the heads and I have been using the tape for about two years.
Maybe a power supply problem? Where can I find the schematic?

Thanks all
Peace & love

Hmm....

My guess is that the motor is tired. I love my 501. Best sounding chorus, killer sounding echo and not to mention that it ROCKS as a preamp.

I would examine the motor. If it's taking a long time to work up the gumption to turn, I would say that it's in need of replacement.

I don't know where I would find one.

I don't have a schematic either.

Surf players say 501 motor is famous for this, 201 and 301 models motors are somewhat more reliable. Tape heads and most other parts are very long-lasting in Roland echoes. Try Roland dealer, maybe they can be asked about replacement parts by e-mail.
