You can check 16+V Tantalum polarity in your driveway. Put on goggles, heavy shirt, and a face mask. Jumper-clip the cap directly to the car battery. If it goes BOOM, polarity was wrong. Step away from the corpse, the smoke is not good for you.

This assumes sub-pea size caps that won't hurt you through a shirt. If you get the big military slug caps, they can do real damage when they let go.

All "your" pictures are ceramic, epoxy dipped. As Tant was also often epoxy-dip, I can see the confusion. But tants are asymmetrical (center and side lead) while monolithic (layer-stacked) ceramic is symmetric.

> I cant zoom the camera in any closer..

Steal your grandfather's reading glasses, hold them over the lens.

If the camera is stuck-focus at near infinity, it will now focus near 10 inches, getting you closer. Cameras with some focus range, this will allow you to get closer than the camera was intended. Too-smart cameras that auto-focus may do great or may become totally baffled.

If gramps left you an SLR, take the lens off and look through backwards. 50mm lens is 2-inch focus. Most long-focus cameras will now blow-up a postage stamp pretty good, and clear. A 28mm enlarger lens is a treasure forever for doing close-ups.

Small semi-flat parts can be scanned. Obviously you need a way to crop-off the excess 10 inches of the scan bed.

you get light, you get sound, and you need geometry to help find all the bits.

observe the cap. if it has a plus mark, if it has a minus mark, observe the polarity. if no marks, go crazy!

Not sure why I'm following this thread...

And now I'm terrified.

I went over my tayda invoices  and we both messed up. I thought I ordered tants but ordered mono and the another time they sent me mono and I did order the tant ..but I love tayda and chit happens ..just have to place a new order soon as a coupon code comes out, Tayda is carrying the good heat shrink now as well.

stupid arcadiator didnt work again ...I swear, no lie, I have built this circuit at least 20 times and cannot get it to even make a sound/work ..I cant figure out my build error for the life of me ..all so I can play the mario bros theme but I scrapped it ..too much time invested in no go builds with it , was literally making me a madman trying to solve its error.
