there don't seem to be that many options.

I wish there were more taper options.  Or maybe they could published the taper curve in the first place.

Fair enough.  Perhaps a better way to phrase it:  "What value/taper do you like in what circuits and why?"

Or if that's still too broad, how about just in a Clyde McCoy circuit?

I haven't owned a wah in maybe 20 years.  I was recently given *most* of a Crybaby, lacking pot, inductor, bottom plate and feet.  I could easily get it working like stock, but I might go all out with it and build something a little extra special.

Last time I replaced a wah pot (90's) there were basically two choices.  You could get the sealed Dunlop (Allen Bradley?) type, or the open (Alpha?) Roc Pot.  Both were 100K IIRC.  Now I see several different values available.  I don't have the technical savvy to know what sonic difference the resistance value makes in a wah pot.  Taper is a different story.

I'm not really asking what I should get, just wondering what other people like and what they like about it.

While we're on the subject, what about the reproduction "halo" inductors?  They look cool, I wonder if they sound much like the originals.

Check out smallbear-they've got lotta options for wah pots. Castledine also has some stuff on his site. If you haven't read R.G.'s article on "technology of wah's" then now would b a good time. Really informative!

I went with a 100K ICAR taper and couldn't be more pleased with the results.  Still not sure how it would be different with a 250k or 470k pot.  I've read the geofex article and there's really no info on this.  I know some people get the higher values in linear taper so they can create custom tapers with paralleled resistors.

The resistance and taper affect the "quackiness" of the wah. Nobody can tell you exactly what combination will float your personal boat, so do try one. As others have pointed out, you now have many more choices than you once did, some made-to-order by guys like Mike McConachie, Joe Gagan and Kyle Chase.
