Do all of the older function generators on eBay etc. use the standard RCA/DMM probes for testing?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap (<$50-$100) standalone device with BASIC capabilities?

I used the DIY audio probe method running through the out on my mac. After having a close-call with my sound card failing i've decided not to do that anymore.

Hey Bones,

Not a bad idea to get a generator if you want to dump the cash, but you CAN just build a 1 or 2 transistor test oscillator, and feed the resulting near-sine wave into your effect to mimic a guitar signal!   Look for "quick and dirty test oscillator" by R.G. Keene, or "phase shift oscillator"....anything like 400Hz to 1kHz would do the trick, should only be like 8 to 10 parts!  It generates an audio tone that you can hear in an amp, so you know if it is working and all that...

Good luck :)  Welcome to the forum...
