Not sure what exactly I'm looking for but, as I don't play guitars I struggle to do initial testing of a new pedal have the take it to a friend.
Is there a project I could build to replicate a guitar or generate a sound in order to test a pedal
Thanks in advance dan

It is possible to simulate a guitar by using a signal generator with a typical 50 or 75 ohm output impedance and a circuit that looks as follows:

1. And inductor of 3 to 5 Henries in series with the generator.
2. A resistor of 5 to 12 Kohms in series with the inductor.
3. A volume control of 500 Kohms, audio taper on the clockwise terminal of the pot from the resistor of item 2 and the counterclockwise terminal goes to ground.
4. A capacitor of 50 to 150 pF to ground from the slider of the pot.  This is the output of the guitar.

This approximates the circuitry inside the guitar and some cable capacitance.  There may be an additional series 500 Kohm potentiometer connected as a variable resistor and a capacitor of maybe 0.047 µF as a tone control connected to the junction of the volume pot clockwise terminal of item 3 and ground.  All the values vary significantly with the pickups and the guitar, so use values representative of your friend's guitar.  These values may be published, but beware - someone may have changed the pickups.

www.geofex.com has a dummy-strummer which makes guitar-like decaying waveforms for guitar system testing.

I built this for testing: http://jmkpcbs.com/product/testing-rig/, but they also have this: http://jmkpcbs.com/product/tiny-tester/ which may do the trick for you.
