for aluminum pedal enclosures. I apply krylon clear in very thin, sweeping layers, not worrying about full coverage with every coat - nice a nf thin and brief.  I've been allowing two or three minutes between coats ( the can says less, maybe a minute. I wonder if I'm waiting too long. )
But as far as sanding - how often should I be sanding? Between every 3 or 4? Again, my "coats" are not a complete coverage, in the interest of not getting drips and thick spots.
How long should the clear coat dry before a sanding?
What grade do you use between clear coats? Not too fine?
Or do I just sand once I've got the thing fully covered, maybe 12-15 sweeps with the can?
If I get the enclosure shiny, finishing up with carbonundrum, or buffing, does clear coat have trouble sticking?
Thanks

I've not used krylon before, but I've used rustoleum many times.  I don't sand, so I can't help with that.
But I would wait 24 hours before sanding, to be on the safe side.  Maybe try 1000 grit or higher ( 1500, 2000 )
And I've not had any trouble with clearcoat sticking to a shiny enclosure.

Sometimes, to get a thicker coat, I'll spray 3-4 coats on, let it cure for 48 hours, and then spray 3-4 more coats.
The second coats build up the finish much faster since the first coats are cured/dried.  It does take time, but I usually
have at least 2 enclosures working at the same time.  So the painting gets rotated.

No sanding?  Maybe I should try the rustoleum.

Anyone else have a clear coat procedure to share?  I've seen some very nice work here....

For that very thin coat every minute or so (which is the way to go), I see no reason to sand then. It will be orange peelish until you get -enough- coats though. Now if you decided to give another round of those after 24 hours or so (read the can), you can wet sand etc, at that time, before the second go.

When doing those 1-2 minute per coats, it sets some but it isn't really cured and sandable at that point.
