The jrc4558 is fine for this. Dip8 dual in line pinout.
It looks like the pcb maker was giving you the choice of ic configuration.
You can still get the ha1457 which is a single in line configured pin ic. Smallbear stock the original ic for a couple of your American dollars (not affiliated)

I guess that's your board in the photo William?

Which resistor are you talking about?
R? In the above schematic.

It should have a ton of volume.

It doesn't have a R# next to it.  But it's just to the right of where the volume pot connect to the board.

volks - look very closly at the gain pot. what value markings are on it? better still, measure the resistance. the HA1457 shows as a single opamp in a single in line package (smallbear's pic shows pin 2 clipped, so it can't be a dual). so two single in line singles would equiv a dual in a dual in line.

I looked but didn't see anything. Closer inspection when I take it apart to build the combo pedal. I did put a 470 resistor in parallel with what I believe to be r6 and it cut the volume a little bit. I might try a different size.
