Hello,
I'm searching for people who have modified an Epiphone Valve Junior (or an GA5)
and would like to join my new facebook-group "Epiphone Valve Junior-Friends"
to show some pictures of their work...

It doesn't have to be a complete rebuild, even if its only a tonestack
or another little mod - everything is worth too see it!

So feel free to join the group and show some pictures  8)

I bought mine while on vacation in Palma de Mallorca, version 3, 2009 IIRC.
Out of the box it sounded great.
What an amp should be, one guitar jack and one control. Who needs more?  :D

I did not modify it, I love it as it is.
I just plug my guitar and play. Sometimes I use a Rangemaster or TS.

Funny, creamy, very loud with a V30 or other good 12" speaker.
IMHO, the internal 8" Eminence needs to be abused in a bigger amp. After that it begins to sound better.

Hello,
yes, its a nice little amp just as it is  :)

But it sounds a little bit dull in stock and thats easy to fix,
you only have to change two resistors on the pcb...

Some things I would always do is to change the tiny output-transformer
against a Hammond 125DSE, change the tubes against two from JJ
(those two things are truely a big difference in sound)
and re-bias the too hot biased tubes - longer tube life ;)

I've done about 4 valve jr's I think :P they souznd pretty good stock, but there's so much potential there for more! The last one I did I actually kept the stock transformers, but added a Baxandall EQ, a master volume, and did the usual changes (fixing the voltage divider in the front, etc). They are a good amp but an excellent modding platform 8)

Sorry, I don't have a facebook account, but I did mod my valve junior head with a tweed style tone control and improved sound quality by lowering the voltage.
I got it as an "open box" deal years ago online. When I pulled it out of the shipping box there was a note taped to it saying "sounds bad", hahaha!

I've never tried lowering the plate voltage, you liked what it did to the tone?
