Hi there,

I have an Ibanez DML Delay, that used to work fine a few years ago. Now I did not use it for about 5 years and now wanted to start to use it again.

What happens is, that wenn I Plug it, the red LED lights up, but I cannot switch it off. Also there is no delay even though I am connected to the delay output. It seems the device does not work. It is more like I am connected to the dry output. Something seems broken in this thing.

Any suggestions? I would appreciate it. Does someone have schematics of the Ibanez DML?

Cheers
Karl

Have you taken it apart? If it's been stored for a while, it might be corrosion or something. Switch contacts could have gone bad, or interconnects might have given up. That type of thing would be my first thought.

Take it to bits, and post a photo of the guts here and we'll take a look.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I took it apart and it does not look too bad....

there are some resistors mid board, around R50, that seem to be sitting in a cup of solder on the topside. probably indicative of nothing. also, R41 and R39, the 2 10M CC resistors have a large amount of something on the visible leg (I dunno what that is called, I've seen in on old metal can transistors, so I call it 'sweating tin'). that might be a place to inspect, or replace if you have some modern 1/4W's.

Hi, thanks for the advice!
I saw the "sweating tin" but not the area around R39. But it all does not look too "broken" if you know what I mean. I could try to replace those resistors, hm, but I don't have too much hope. The rest of the electronics look fine to me.
Any other ideas or schematics would be appreciated!
Thanks!

The best I can find is this, the DFL digital flanger from the same series. Probably very similar, circuit-wise. It certainly looks pretty close. It might allow you to follow the signal through with an audio probe and see how far it gets.

There's a link online for someone selling copies of the Service Manual, but they want $20 for it. That's pretty cheeky in my view, since it isn't theirs to sell.
