All the old-school pedals, and the FF is a perfect example were voiced to compensate for tone-suck. When you'd put a FF in the signal path you'd have to adjust the tone controls on the amp to offset the tone suck. So the FF was voiced to sound good on an amp that had the treble turned up and the bass turned down.  Now, when you build a full bypass version, there is no tone-suck so the pedal is too boomy and bassy.

I don't know if this post was a joke or you were just sleepy, but you do know that the Fuzz Face has always been a true-bypass design, right?  (i.e. no tone suck)

What astounds me is why they never put a tone control on the Fuzz Face.  It's not like there wasn't room on the enclosure.  ;D

"I knew that." Says Inspector Clouseau.

In fact, almost all my pedals have that same grounded input wiring scheme too (pulldown resistors usually not needed and the grounded input keeps the effect from freaking out and oscillating and inducing noise in your bypass mode).

So please, you're a smart guy, whatever in hell was I thinking?  :)

Time to reborn an old thread...  ;D

Someone says they have no impact on the tone.
But someone says they can make the tone "fuller".
I have built many Fuzz Faces: all with 10 or 47nf and 100k/250k volume pot (personal taste). The JHF1, is the only one I found that comes stock with 100nf and the only I ear with another bass response.
I've read time ago that you can compare a SI FF with 100nf with Gilmour's Echoes solo in Pompeii, and 10nf with Money solo.
I don't know..its a huge generalization, as many says: it depends a lot of what pickup and what amp you're into.

The only thing I can say is that you will get a bit more highs with a smaller value volume pot: if you want to get more attack to push some dark preamp, go for 10nf and 100k volume pot.
But if you want to avoid some fizzines, especially in blackface amps, go for 500k and 100nf.
If you're undecided: dpdt switch with both values, or middle term like 47nf  ;D

Just my two cents  :)
To you, buffered bypass sucks tone.
To me, it sucks my balls.
