I have a couple of pinions that came from an old printer.  I think you can probably find something like this in some scanners as well.  Some toys have them.  But if you want something that is guaranteed to fit, you may have to get a discarded wah pedal.

If your problem is the attachment to the shaft, find a knob with the correct spline and cut it down so you can glue a gear over top of it.

Don't wah pots have non standard tapers so even after all this time spent searching and kludging a pinion to fit to the pot on hand is it aurally going  function as expected/required?

Replacement parts for Dunlop wahs are widely available. That includes the pinion gears, in splined or D shaft versions. No reason to waste time or effort on this. Besides, the gear pitch from the gear you've salvaged out of that printer may not necessarily match the pitch of the rack gear of the wah shell.

That ultimately depends on the project. Maybe it's not a wah per se that he's building, but a pedal that needs to provide a simple linear response. I don't think he mentioned what the actual project was (or maybe I missed it? :icon_rolleyes:).

greg,
talk to joe gagan, he has some that should work.
i use duco cement when i need to do this.. ya can disolve it with acetone if you need to, and it dries into an almost celluloid. works really good for this purpose.

i've tried filing a round shaft to a d and hated it. lotta work. ;)

definitely get a hold of joe. i used stuff i got from him in my askiewnivibe project, and he's a wicked nice guy.

Hey Jimi! Hope all is well....

I tried to email Joe but have not heard back. I did find some old... OLD info from him that he sent me years ago on how to adapt flatted or knurled pinions for solid shaft pots.

I initially tried long ago to file a solid shaft for a flatted pinion and ended up destroying the pots due to vibration. I found its better to modify the pinion and just use a 2-part cement or Gorilla glue.
