Quote from: Steve CFYI, when the TS-808 came out the wholesale cost on it was $28.

The TS was made by a very large company that had no problem making the tooling, paying sweat labor to populate the boards, or to produce a zillion units per run. The Klon is a little different. Lower quantities skew everything.

Just wanted to post some useless trivia, but thanks for stating the obvious facts anyway.

There are many people who still question why they should spend $179 on a boutique pedal when they can get mass produced stuff for $79. That $79 pedal has the good reputation too. Unfortunatly it's not obvious to all.

I do like trivia like that. :D What year was the TS808 introduced? Do you have any more intro prices for other pedals? I would love to know the original cost for a FuzzFace or a ToneBender.

Thanks,

Good piece of info, you know then that if that was the wholesale price the cost to the manufacturer was probably $5 a unit.Wow.

yeah, that's a good thought.

i suppose to those who dont build pedals that the goop and all of the
secretive stuff is comforting when you laid down that much money for
it.  but, then again to those who diy, it's kind of like the wizard of oz
behind a curtain....you think, "oh that's all there is to it ?"
But then again, when you are making your living building these things,
the circuit is your bread and butter.  I will say this, the klon is a nice
piece of work.  It's a great looking pedal.  Alot of money was spent
with the custom box and so forth.  I guess I would be a little secretive
too if I had that much invested in it.

here's another thought.... what would keep somebody from ripping off
a design, mod it slightly and then goop it and call it a boutique pedal....
oh wait,  ...tubescreamer....

You could say the same of the FuzzFace.

I know at least one person is selling klon clones, or something just about the same.

Personally, I don't have any problems with somebody building a clone, so long as they don't sell them or make that cloning info available to everybody and their pets.

I know I'm coming in late on this, but I thought perhaps one of you would like to buy my $400.01 LPB derivative :P

It's really nice, I must have changed at least 2 components, and the case is molded from pure, 100% unobtainium. Sweet.

I'm only serious

Not Sure, '81 comes to mind, but someone else might know for sure.

The Mu-tron Bi-phase was $232.  I just remembered those two because I own one of them.  The prices were from an old wholesale catalog from the eighties, can't remember the name of it though.

Don't know, sorry.

P.S. I went to Guitar Center today and they had a used TS-808 there for $599.  They also had an Original Uni-Vibe for $1299.
