I reckon these are the simplest mods ever...

I put a 500k log pot, parallel with a 0.0012 capacitor infront of my fuzz face and I have now got a fantastic Pete Townsend "Can't explain tone"

Also, I put a 500k log pot, parallel with a 0.0015 capacitor infront of my Tycho octavia, it tones down the wildness of the sound and gives it a bit more presence.

My boutique Fuzz Face has a gain pot at the front...does that count? I was thinking of putting a small parallel cap with this ... love the sound but it's not sizzly as I might like.
Built many FF'z and I decided I like the pot there [tween that and the gain pot makes for nice FF tonefinding]..hafta try this on the Tone Machine...you're results analysis makes it seems like a great Idea.

I've tried this trick in a number of circuits, using a pot in parallel with a second pot which is in series with a cap. The best sounds are never (IMHO) attained with the cap straight acoss the main pot. Adding a little resistance with the cap works like a low pass. It works like a charm, especially if you use a SP12T rotary to switch the value of the cap. :)

I presume that your pot and cap in parallel are giving you a controllable bass cut (ie highs "see" 10k-200k of impedance in the cap, while lows see 1M or more in the cap).  So the easiest "way in" for the bass is via the pot.  ???yes???

Have you tried (or compared this setup with) the tone control in the easyface (.01uF cap parallel with a 100k pot)?

hi Brett that

My basic idea was to cut the gain but let some of the treble through (hence the capacitor) I origonall tried a 0.0015 cap but it was too trebley I guessed a 0.0012 cap and it sounds great. It's basically just a passive volume control infront of the the curcuit. Haven't looked at the tone control for the easy face... I'm just a real begginer   who stumbled across a nice sound.  :o

You can use a 100K to 500K pot without a cap that increases the input impedance (which must be pretty lo) and this will act as a bass boost or cut.  The cap increases the hi's in addition to the impedance change.  It is a nice and needed mod.   :D
