Hi all, I have a rotary encoder with a 3mm shaft like the one in the picture.  I am happy to use it with just the spindle if I need to, but I am hoping to add a knob if possible.  I found a few sources of 3mm shaft knobs but they will end up being really expensive - either due to a minimum order amount or postage costs.  I wonder if anybody knows somewhere that sells 3mm shaft knobs that are easy and relatively inexpensive or (and this might be my preferred option I think) a way of making some kind of adapter bushing so I can use a standard 6.3mm knurled shaft knob?

Thanks

Google knobs for 1/8" shafts.

Here in the UK, this is possibly the single area in which Maplin beats other component suppliers...

That type encoder is made to be turned maybe 100 times in its life. Set a video mode on a monitor, say. And would usually be recessed inside to avoid abuse.

Use it on a kick-pedal and twist it many times a night, you probably should have spares and a quick way to replace them.

But hey, they ARE inexpensive.

There are bigger encoders made for hard life.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the strength of the coder, but I got 2 for free, so the price was right :-).  I'll give them a go, and replace if necessary

I tried for 1/8" shaft knobs, but the best I could do for those was a $2 knob with $25 postage :-0.  I am in Australia, and they mostly seem to be in the US.  I wish there was a cheap equivalent from China, but so far I haven't found one.

Could you use bigger knobs and fill them up with epoxy putty?

I'm sure I've seen small-shaft pots in many Chinese eBay emporia.
