3-way toggle/slide switch recommendation?

Hi All,

I'm looking for a three-way switch for a filter pedal that I'm building. It's a state variable filter inspired by the Mutron, so it has three modes: Highpass, Bandpass, and Lowpass. I need a switch to select between those. I'd thought of a toggle switch at first, but I can't seem to find a three-way toggle that isn't centre-off. So maybe a slide switch instead? What do you all use for jobs like this?

Looking for a recommendation for a good 3-way switch: decent quality, available, reasonably cheap.

Thanks for any pointers,
Tom

I'd go for a rotary. It's usually the simplest way to achieve 3 or more distinct switching arrangements. It complicates the panel legending and pcb layout and good, affordable rotary switches are not commonly stocked.

Slide switches I like for simple on-off "option" type functions, that is things you would set & forget. 3 way or more are usually too much of a fiddle to get to stop on the setting you want.

Did Roland use 3 way toggles on the analog Juno-Jupiter synths? Those with chromed baton handles that break dead easy?

3 position as in SP3T? I just use a DPDT on-on-on. They are easy to find.

Hey Tom

Madbean has a version of the mutron with just such a switch.
also IIRC the tonefreak severe uses the same switch

I recently had a great deal of difficulty sourcing an on-on-on switch which i thought surprising. This was the cheapest i came across: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2MD6T1B5M2RE-Multicomp-Switch-Toggle-DPDT-On-On-On/142503838823?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Maybe suits your needs

It's been a while since I ordered any. Normally get E-Switches from Digikey. Went and looked under DPDT on-on-on and they're not there - very few options and none affordable. Found them under SP3T on-on-on - seems they are listing things differently now (Mouser is the same). https://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/e-switch/100DP6T1B1M1RE/100DP6T1B1M1RE-ND/3777875. Not cheap but cheapest they have and shipping is fast and cheap. Mouser is a little better. Lovemyswitches has really cheap ones $0.74, but who knows if they're any good. SmallBear has Taiways for $2.80 (Steve doesn't sell crap).

Thanks everyone. Those E-Switch options are looking good, and Mouser or Digikey are easy enough to do from here (Portugal).

This little "simple" pedal is going to finish up being quite expensive for what it is! With two vactrols and a fancy switch, it bumps the cost up a bit. Maybe I'll post another thread and show you the prototype.
