Whammy spring

I've saw a mod on YouTube which inserts a spring under the footpedal of a whammy pedal so that it springs permanently open unless you press your foot down. I got an assorted set of springs, but they either wouldn't compact down far enough to allow the pedal to go all the way down, or weren't stiff enough to push the pedal all the way up and hold it there.
It's a neat mod that just requires a pretty stiff spring with very few turns. Has anyone done this mod?  If so what spring did you use and where did you get it from?

Seems like an easy thing to do, but I have no idea where you could get a suitable spring.
I guess you want a conical or hourglass compression spring so that some of the wire goes inside when fully compressed to increase the travel. I found a picture of an hourglass...

McMaster -Carr has compression springs, as to what might do the job, no idea.

Did you try asking the youtube poster?

There's a crybaby model that does this as well - perhaps search for replacement springs for the wah and use in the whammy.
