Finishing my Wah mods - advice please

I have been tweaking my '94 Dunlop Crybaby GCB95. I've read what I can and I guess I could use a little nudge to get me over the line...

It has the Hotpotz2 pot and the N30 inductor, both of which are working ok, and I'm not sure are worth changing. Happy to hear different on this.

So far, I've done the true bypass switch and removed the buffer. Everything works as it should but I notice now that there is a slight volume drop when it is switched on, and more noticeable now is the very quick 'wah' transition. As I rock back the pedal, at about 1/3 through the travel, the effect changes very quickly, so there is not much change in tone from 1/2 way through to heel position. It's a sort of 'squitch' instead of a 'waaaahhh' if that makes sense.

Which further mods should I make?

Cheers

Matt

hi Matt,

nice work! i have to dispute the inductor thing: it's worth changing because it'll be fun. it's an excuse to do more mods. IIRC Fasels aren't TOO pricy nowadays.

about the level drop: if you haven't seen this site already, check out "Gain mods" here: http://stinkfoot.se/archives/549

I wouldn't worry about the inductor just yet.  It looks like you're converting to the original Thomas Organ circuit, and the MPSA18 transistors are not well suited for that, they're probably too high gain, especially for the Q2 spot.  Try a Q1 around 415 and a Q2 around 250, and you should get a good tone and sweep with the original circuit values.  (Also that 82K was 100K in the older wahs, not a big difference, maybe totally inaudibe.)

For the volume drop, most people change the 68K to something lower, like 56K or 47K.  I like it stock myself.
