Hey folks, I am posting this to ask which of 2 power supplies would be better for the Ruby Tuby circuit, which takes 12v.  http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2014/10/ruby-tuby.html

I am using a 7812 regulator before the circuit.  Resistors are 1/4 watt.  The 2 power supplies' outputs are:

1) 12VAC 1600mA
2)16V 1.12 A

This is new territory for me as I have only ever used 9v.  Just hoping to avoid blowing up a cap or something worse.  Any advise is much appreciated! :)

If you are using a 12V regulator, you will need to give it a little more than 12V in to get 12V out..   The 16V should be fine.   I buy 35V or higher rated parts only because .. well because they are cheap and not much bigger than like 16V rated parts (Though if your regulator is working you would only get 12V to the board anyway).

Unless you have a short or something, the circuit will only pull what it needs from the power supply.  I think the 7812's are only rated to 1.5A anyway.

EDIT:  If you get an AC adapter (Actually puts out AC on the end of the cord) you will need to rectify this before running it through your 7812, so make sure you are getting a 12-18VDC power supply.   I have used old laptop power supplies with success here with some minor filtering.   Most of them are around 20V and rated to 4 amps or something.   :icon_mrgreen:
