yes it is a 34, i just seen it also
I can't get a line on it at all.
pulled it apart checked the tubes all good but 1 a 1v2, would this tube keep it from showing a line. and of course I did not get on with all the tubes i got

It won't work without that.     That provides the high voltage which accelerates the electrons towards the screen.  When the electrons hit the phosphorus screen green light is emitted.

Watch out around there it's probably about 1.2kV (1200V).

It is possible to replace that with a high voltage silicon diode(s) and maybe a series resistor.
I'm sure there's a web-page about it.
