How to pull the footswitch out of an old Maxon pedal?

I have an old Maxon EQ pedal.  The pedal will reliably switch from bypass to active when I short the switch pad to ground.  It is not so reliable when using the footswitch.  I am guessing it may be the switch.  Either that or I have had similar trouble in the past when the spring that presses on a switch is off centre.  Anyway, I have removed the circuit from the case, but have no idea how to get into the footswitch "bay"  anybody have any experience?
