Got a bunch of 4N35's and PVN012's floating around. Ideas for circuits?

Hi Guys,

I got a bunch of extra 4N35's, which are optocouplers. They kind of remind me of Vactrol's like what is used in the DOD 440 Envelope filter, but those are more photoresistor based than phototransistor based.

The PVN012's are more like solid state relay's but they use LEDs and HEXFETs internally.

I've seen some people make cool effects with IC's with internal FETs in them (Like the Way Huge Red Llama's use of the CD4049UBE)

Anyone got any good ideas to use them in for an effect pedal?

The '35s are photo-transistor(BJT).

The '102s are as you say big MOSFETs.

Neither has any "linear" range to speak of. They are designed and specified as "switches".

They all need "significant" input power, 3+mA for reliable switching.

The '102 sure could be an audio switch. At 4mA the turn-on is 4mS, the turn-off is 0.2mS, so a simple 2-in switch is break before make.
