Boss OC3 cooked transistor!

Is this from an OC3 schematic or one of the other Boss SMT pedals?

Firstly, welcome to the forum and secondly, yes it is taken from an OC3 schematic (service manual )

I have repaired a BF-3 in the past which has a similar board by taking out Q15 and IC6 and installing a normal through hole 3.3V regulator as follows:

Input on pad 5 of IC6
Ground on pad 2 of IC6
Output on pad 3 of IC6

It may not be as power efficient but it works fine.

cctsim's technique of using a through hole 3.3V regulator is valid (I've had to do the same thing myself ). But you must keep in mind as to the current consumption of the circuit being powered. The other concern is efficiency-battery life may be reduced somewhat (anyone still use batteries in digital pedals? )
