Using a small 1W 6.5V bulb instead of an LED for indicator

I was rooting through a bunch of old stuff and found a very cool panel indicator with a small bulb in it, with a cool green plastic cover. I thought it would look cool as an indicator isntead of an LED. So I tested it with a 9v battery with a 1W 10K resistor in series. It lit up perfectly, so I thought I'd use it. Then I noticed the 10K resistor had got VERY hot. The bulb didn't seem to heat up too much, or the 9v battery, but the resistor was very hot. Does this mean this is dangerous and I shouldn't do it? I don't know much about voltages for halogen bulbs.

Should probably measure the voltage across the resistor to double check if your V2÷R is less than 1 W.

Seems more like it was 100R or 10R, not -k, as there's no way 1mA current can heat anything up.

And a bulb will take much more current than the effect. You don't intend to run it on a battery do you? Or your power supply isn't running lots of other stuff is it?... You can measure current with a meter (it's a "series" measurement.) Why not just put an LED into the bezel with hot glue or something?

Well spotted sir. A random one I pulled out of my 10K drawer turned out to be 330R. Thank you! I'll try it with something else...
