The clipping diode simulation might be crude, but the functioning of the circuit is well shown here. Traces show output by steps of input signal.

Crossover "compression" can be controlled with change of the 180k biasing resistors (range of resistor values with fixed 10V AC input):

Very interesting. I love to see this kind of analysis done on pedal circuits. Playing with them is good, but getting into the nitty-gritty is better! The more we understand, the more we can tweak!

Thanks.

Crossover can be changed with R4 instead of the two DC resistors. This may be simpler.

By changing the DC resistors we have the following results:
Magenta = 25k Purple = 120k Red = 180k

I know. I played with this. But it interferes with the amplitude of the signal before clipping.
Resulting in a range in high input too small (only little difference in crossover) which renders the control useless and in low input too big (very easy to have huge crossover with no clipping) which means you rather control between OR crossover sound OR clipping sound, completely negating the "amp" sound (clipping + X over). That is not good .... or is it?
I'll keep playing with it.

One thing is for sure: with max settings, this thing can "bloom" big time with very big compression at full attack.
