Twin Peaks harmonic tremolo... in stereo?

I'm getting a bit confused with the LED switching arrangement

here are a few notes:

+5V is always connected to Q3 emitter

pos1:

all LEDS pulse in phase : mono tremolo

the doubled audio paths still feel overcomplicated, to be honest.
Perhaps if you tried somehing like this you would make your life easier:

Yep, I see it now. Positions 1 and 2 will do what I want, but positions 3 and 4 are identical (just out of phase with each other) and not what I wanted either. Back to the drawing board. There's got to be a simpler way to do this but I need to play around with it a bit longer!

The two-channel system does seem complicated, but it's the only way to get two fully separate audio paths. It's probably not the most useful feature in the world, since trem usually comes before normal stereo effects like delay, but I could see it coming after a stereo chorus or something like that.
